York County First Steps

Since its inception in 1999, First Steps has helped South Carolina’s youngest children and their families get ready for school. As the state’s only entity focused exclusively on increasing school readiness outcomes for all children, First Steps focuses on five broad strategy areas. York County First Steps supports a variety of interventions for preschool children and their families in an effort to prepare the children for success in their school career. Several Programs we partner with other community agencies and organizations to deliver the interventions, such as Parents as Teachers in partnership with the School Districts and support to The Early Learning Partnership to provide the free Medical Clinic Services through the Family Resource Centers. In other programs we deliver the services directly through our staff such as our Quality Enhancement Grants and Technical Assistance to child care providers located throughout York County. We work diligently to make the most effective use of the funds entrusted to us through constantly evaluating the outcomes from our Program initiatives.
