Who We Are

The Multicultural Markets Division (MCM) gives special leadership and emphasis to urban and rural Scouting programs. Multicultural Markets is the BSA’s commitment to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background.  This division of the Palmetto Council has a desire to serve youth who would otherwise go unserved.

What We Do

The mission of the Multicultural Markets Team is to provide tactical support to local councils by building their capacity to grow and sustain their membership. The team was developed to support local councils by maximizing national efforts in local ways to increase traditional membership growth potential in ethnically diverse segments of the population. Our vision is for Scouting to become the youth organization of choice for ethnic populations. This can only be achieved through a collective effort which includes education, training, collaboration, inclusion and a healthy volunteer base. Beginning in 2018, girls have the opportunity to join Cub Scout dens, and in 2019, programs for older girls will make it possible to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. The BSA operates traditional Scouting by chartering local organizations, such as churches, clubs, civic associations, or educational organization, to implement the Scouting program for youth within their communities. Units are led entirely by volunteers appointed by the chartering organization, who are supported by local councils using both paid professional Scouters and volunteers.
