This will be a panel discussion following a book drive between different student organizations to benefit local elementary school students. The panelist will consist of Winthrop professors, and literacy coaches that have experience and background knowledge of literacy and poverty. This panel discussion provides students an opportunity to learn about the importance of early reading intervention and the effects of illiteracy when it comes to poverty. There will be time for attendees to ask questions to help lead the discussion after the panelist give information about their background and the importance of early intervention and poverty. At the end of the event, it will give students a chance to learn about opportunities to work with children on literacy skills after learning all of this information. This is an approved cultural credit event!
