Volunteer: Emergency Preparedness Youth Educator Volunteer

Save lives and prevent injury by becoming a youth preparedness educator with the Red Cross Disaster Services team.

The Pillowcase Project (grades 3-5) and Prepare with Pedro (grades k-2) are national youth preparedness programs offered by Red Cross. The 40- or 60-minute presentations provide emergency preparedness education to young children in classrooms and other settings. The highly interactive presentations address home fire safety, a local natural hazard, coping skills, and household preparedness steps like making a plan and a kit.

These are ongoing volunteer opportunities. Volunteers must complete a combination of online, self-paced training(2 ½ hours) and an in-person teach-back session (2 ½ hours).  Once trained, volunteers can participate in large-scale coordinated volunteer events  - or can do their own outreach to schools and community groups to set up and schedule presentations.

Volunteer: Community Engagement and Volunteer Recruitment Team Member (Virtual and/or In-Person)

Recruitment Team Members assist in the implementation of the volunteer recruitment plan by performing volunteer recruitment activities to attract a skilled, talented, and diverse volunteer workforce. 

Responsibilities

Assist in the development and implementation of volunteer recruitment activities Proactively recruit new volunteers for general and specific volunteer opportunities Research outreach events and fairs Reach out to community groups to set up recruitment presentations Plan and carry out recruitment events in communities served by the region, for both identified partner groups and open-call interest meetings Promote volunteer opportunities at community events

Time Commitment

5-10 hours per month.

Volunteer: Blood Drive Volunteer (Ongoing and Flexible)

Blood Donor Ambassadors (Blood Drive Volunteers) greet and register blood donors at the front desk of blood drives. They also assist in the canteen area to create a great experience for blood donors.   

Time Commitment  

This is an ongoing, flexible opportunity where volunteers can sign up for shifts that work with their schedule.   Volunteers are asked to commit to 6 hours/month (1-2 blood drives).  

 Additional Requirements 

Ability to communicate in a professional manner with diverse populations  Demonstrate excellent customer service and comfort working with people  Manage the reception process by ensuring each donor is warmly greeted and assisted with initial intake according to the appointment priority system  Manage the hospitality experience by offering refreshments to donors, thanking them for their contribution, and alerting staff immediately if a donor shows signs of feeling unwell
