Service is being part of something larger and influencing the values you want the community to exhibit. Community service builds bridges within the community, creates a sense of community pride, instills empathy, helps build confidence, develops teamwork and leadership skills, supports ecological health, strengthens democracy, and fosters networking, among other positive benefits. This service will encourage collaboration and fellowship, and celebrate the human spirit's response to a common cause.
Volunteers will assist with various tasks, general cleanup of the garden, clearing brush along the fence, building new beds, weeding, moving soil, or other tasks. We will send details the week before, describing what we will ask the volunteers to do.
Background on the Event:
"Thanks to the support of many others in the 9/11 community, 9/11 Day has transformed September 11 into the largest day of service in America, officially recognized under federal law. More than 30 million Americans and others participated, dedicating time each 9/11 to helping others in need and rekindling the spirit of unity that brought Americans together in the days following the 9/11 tragedy."
