***We are looking for volunteer advocates who are passionate about helping victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse at our main office! The Crisis Advocate assists staff members through communicating needs of callers on our crisis hotline, as well as tending to small work tasks around the office that help make an impact on our clients. We are very flexible in working with school schedules and work schedules! In addition, we are taking the necessary precautions in response to COVID-19 by sanitizing after every client, taking temperatures of everyone entering the office, and wearing face masks or coverings around the entire office. Title: Crisis Advocate
Purpose: To improve the organization’s efficiency and build on quality of services.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Completion of 15 hours of Volunteer Training Program
- Ability to remain non-judgmental and non-directive
- High level of attention to details and organization
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Signing and adhering to confidentiality pledge
- Access to reliable transportation and phone service
- Adherence to the philosophy, goals and policies of Safe Passage
- High School Diploma or some college
- National child abuse and criminal clearances
Responsibilities:
- Assist administrative staff with filing paperwork and data entry
- Greet clients as they come in for appointments
- Provide clients with the necessary paperwork upon arrival
- Answer office phone calls and transfer callers as necessary
- Help assess departmental needs
- Attend quarterly meetings of volunteer staff
- Contact supervisor regarding mandated reports of child abuse or suicide attempts
Learning Opportunity:
- Receive working knowledge of services provided to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse at SPI
- Gain experience in performing administrative, human resources and clerical duties
- Develop familiarity with responsibilities of victim service providers
- Network with community partners and government personnel
Availability: Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm
