Make a Difference Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of October. However, we will host our Make a Difference Day service the week before. If you have ever wondered if your actions can make a difference, the answer is yes! Start by cleaning your backyard because volunteering is all about influencing the value you want the community to exhibit.
Community service builds bridges within the community, creates a sense of community pride, instills empathy, helps build confidence, develops teamwork and leadership skills, supports ecological health, strengthens democracy, and fosters networking, among other positive benefits. This service will encourage collaboration and fellowship, and celebrate the human spirit's response to a common cause.
Because litter is an ongoing problem in our community and on Winthrop's campus, we must stay vigilant in our efforts to clean it up and improve the appearance of our communities and campus.
This litter clean-up is open to STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF.
- All supplies (gloves, bags, trash grabbers, vests) will be provided.
- All volunteers must complete the attached assumption of risk form.
- All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes.
- Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather conditions and plan to bring water or a sports drink to stay hydrated during the clean-up.
- For safety reasons, no one will be allowed to pick up litter alone – all volunteers will be grouped with at least one other person.
- We can accommodate different needs. If you are in a wheelchair, you may collect litter along sidewalks and in parking lots.
- Contact us if you have any questions.
The required Assumption of Risk form is attached.
