Campus Green is a favorite place for many people to gather with the addition of hammock racks and other seating. In addition, the various theme gardens offer opportunities for people to see endangered sunflowers and wildflowers, along with many native pollinators including butterflies. However, these gardens require regular maintenance to keep them vibrant all year long. In January, our tasks include cutting back the dead plants, weeding, mulching, and planting bulbs (irises and daffodils) and pansies.
Our Post MLK Day Service will pick up from the MLK Day service if needed. Volunteers will finish mulching the beds and any final touches needed. This is the best time to mulch. Mulch helps keep the soil moist, adds some nutrients, and keeps unwanted plants from growing.
