Needs From: Winthrop University

Volunteer: Food Pantry Volunteer

Our emergency assistance food pantry serves about 500 families each month. Our volunteers are who helps us to be able to accomplish that level of service in our community.

Our volunteers work to sort, bag, and distribute bags of groceries to our community and provide a welcoming environment for those in need. Our pantry is open from 8:30am to 1:00pm Monday through Friday and we welcome volunteers on any of those days and they may work the entire 8:30-1:00 shift or break it into smaller chunks if that is preferred. We would love to have volunteers committed to weekly service but less frequent volunteering is also appreciated. Volunteering begins with an hour long orientation and then you're ready to help us!

Volunteers who reach out via EagleImpact will be contacted by our volunteer coordinator, Stefani Osborne, to nail down a service schedule and orientation time.

Volunteer: FOOD DRIVE TO COLLECT DOG AND CAT FOOD FOR PETS OF SENIORS IN NEED

The York County Council on Aging is in need of dog and cat food for the beloved pets of our community's senior citizens in need. Our volunteers tell us that many seniors split their Meals on Wheels lunch with their pets because they can't afford pet food. In the past, Winthrop has held several pet food drives which provided us with plenty of food to send out to our home-bound seniors for their pets. For a lonely senior, their pets are often their only  family, their best friend, and the reason they get up in the morning. When they split their lunch with their pet, neither the senior nor the pet gets proper nutrition. Pet food drives are wonderfully helpful.

Some patients don't have enough support and really just want companionship from pets. The pets truly help make people wonderful at this time in their life. The pets must be certified through a registered Pet Therapy company.

If you are interested but your pet is not certified, I can link you up with Alliance of Therapy Dogs.  We serve Rock Hill, Chester, Lancaster and York areas and have patients in their home, assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities.

Scheduling is flexible to fit your needs.

I look forward to speaking with you!
