Volunteer: Emergency Preparedness Youth Educator VolunteerSave lives and prevent injury by becoming a youth preparedness educator with the Red Cross Disaster Services team. The Pillowcase Project (grades 3-5) and Prepare with Pedro (grades k-2) are national youth preparedness programs offered by Red Cross. The 40- or 60-minute presentations provide emergency preparedness education to young children in classrooms and other settings. The highly interactive presentations address home fire safety, a local natural hazard, coping skills, and household preparedness steps like making a plan and a kit. These are ongoing volunteer opportunities. Volunteers must complete a combination of online, self-paced training(2 ½ hours) and an in-person teach-back session (2 ½ hours). Once trained, volunteers can participate in large-scale coordinated volunteer events - or can do their own outreach to schools and community groups to set up and schedule presentations.
