Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen

Who We Are

Founded in 1986 by a coordinating committee of two Catholic laywomen, two brothers and a priest from the Oratory in Rock Hill, South Carolina- the Soup Kitchen was named after Dorothy Day who founded "Houses of Hospitality". She recognized that though people were eager to help the deserving poor, many people were still left wanting. From it's beginning, the soup kitchen's mission embodied that spirit. It provides a safe comfortable place and a free hot meal to whomever walks through the door. No Questions Asked! ?We do however track the number of meals served daily in order to receive food supplies from Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. As an independent charitable organization, the Soup Kitchen supporters are an ecumenical and eclectic hodgepodge of churches, businesses, civic groups, school groups, students and professionals

What We Do

The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen exists to serve a free, hot meal in safe pleasant surroundings to whoever comes through the door. Everyone is welcome and no questions are asked.
