Who We Are
The mission of the Solid Waste Collection and Recycling Division is to provide quality collection services that provide disposal opportunities in a convenient and efficient manner for the citizens of our community while at the same time reducing the amount of solid waste disposed through the reduction and reuse of waste streams.
What We Do
York County Solid Waste Collection & Recycling is responsible for operating and maintaining the 16 York County Collection and Recycling Centers strategically located throughout the county for the disposal and recycling of household garbage. The division also operates a recycling separation center where recycled waste streams are separated and processed for delivery to the recycling industry.
Responsibilities
- Accept household garbage and recyclables from citizens of York County
- Provide transportation services for waste collected at collection and recycling centers to the York County Transfer Station for disposal and the York County Recycling Separation Center for market preparation
- The Solid Waste Collection & Recycling department operates the Recycling Separation Center where waste streams are separated and prepared for the market
- Operates the Household Hazardous Material Collection program on a quarterly basis for York County citizens
- Provides educational services to the community through presentations to school and civic groups, which maintains the partnership between Rock Hill Clean and Green and the Museum of York County
- Promotes recycling through participation in America Recycles Day and Earth Day Birthday programs
