Who We Are

Students Helping Innovate & Educate Leadership Development

S.H.I.E.L.D. was formed in 2015 by a group of Winthrop students, and became an official Winthrop University student organization in 2016.   As a group of volunteers, we provide mentoring and leadership programing to youth attending Northwestern High School.   Our aim is to see a growth of knowledge and confidence in each high school student that we mentor.  Mentoring is individual based, so we can reach each teen to meet their specific needs.  We create leadership programing, based on skills we have acquired on our college journey, and we also host several professionals from the community.  We hope to improve morale with the youth, and foster friendships that are built on positive standards.

What We Do

SHIELD's mentoring and leadership program meets at Northwestern High School on Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm.
