The Office of Sustainability honors Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy through service and volunteerism, demonstrating how joining together in service can transform your life and the lives of others. Service not only improves the community, it has the power to unite people, build bridges, and heal divides.
Campus Green is a favorite place for many people to gather and share experiences. The theme gardens include endangered sunflowers, wildflowers, and native pollinators such as bumble bees, carpenter bees, butterflies, and other insects. This space can show how human and natural systems are interconnected. However, these gardens require regular maintenance to keep them vibrant all year. In January, our tasks include cutting back the dead plants, weeding, mulching, and planting annuals and perennials.
This MLK Day of Service will continue the work started on January 16th. Volunteers will help trim dead plants, do some weeding, mulch, and add new plants if time permits.
