Because litter is an ongoing problem in our community and on Winthrop's campus, we must stay vigilant in our efforts to clean it up and improve the appearance of our communities and campus. To recognize the importance of Earth Day for activism, we encourage student, faculty, and staff to come out to make a statement about the planet's health and bring attention to the damage caused by litter.
In January, we had nearly 70 students participating in the MLK Day Service to pick up litter. Let's break that number of volunteers in honor of Earth Day!
This litter clean-up is open to STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF.
- All supplies (gloves, bags, trash grabbers, vests) will be provided.
- All volunteers must complete the attached assumption of risk form.
- All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes.
- Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather conditions and plan to bring water or a sports drink to stay hydrated during the clean-up.
- For safety reasons, no one will be allowed to pick up litter alone – all volunteers will be grouped with at least one other person.
- We can accommodate different needs. If you are in a wheelchair, you may collect litter along sidewalks and in parking lots.
- Contact us if you have any questions.
The required Assumption of Risk form is attached.
