Description

Volunteers are needed to help with concessions, parking and admissions at this family fall festival at our historic living history plantation.

You may work a 4 hour shift or the entire day. If you work the entire day, lunch will be provided.

 

Event description:

Enjoy fall family fun at this living history event exploring farm-related activities that occurred in the fall to prepare for winter in the Carolina Piedmont during the 19th century. 

 

  • Apple butter
  • Historic cooking—cornmeal, apples, pork, pumpkin, greens, popcorn
  • Storyteller Tim Lowry
  • Food preservation: drying, pickling, sugar preservation
  • 4H petting zoo
  • Woodworking
  • Blacksmithing
  • Corn shelling/grinding
  • Cotton-picking
  • Children’s Games: Corn Pit, "Find the Button," apple bobbing, relay races
  • Historic cotton ginning
  • Barnyard tours
  • Living history in the Homestead & Col. Bratton Houses
