Campus Green is a favorite place for many people to gather with the addition of hammock racks and other seating. In addition, the various theme gardens offer opportunities for people to see endangered sunflowers and wildflowers, along with many native pollinators and butterflies. However, these gardens require regular maintenance to keep them vibrant all year long. In January, our tasks include cutting back the dead plants, weeding, mulching, and planting bulbs (irises and daffodils) and pansies.
The MLK Day Service will pick up from the Pre MLK Day service. Volunteers will finish up trimming any remaining dead plants, weeding, and planting irises and pansies. The major task will be mulching the beds. This is the best time to mulch. Mulch helps keep the soil moist, adds some nutrients, and keeps unwanted plants from growing.
